The Waterfall  by Wendy Taylor

When I stand under the waterfall of God’s love, what do I seek?

Is it the hope of a few precious droplets touching my dry and aching skin?

Maybe enough to say that’s just enough, there is nothing left over.

Or is there a better place? One where perhaps I can get my feet wet too?

Where it is good to hobble in the shallows for a while,

And, for that while, it is easier to walk on the stones beneath my sore feet.

Is God a temporary fix? Something I put on and take off as feels right?

I have discovered a better place: The waterfall as a place of abiding.

Here, the tap is never turned off; there are no blockages; no rations.

Drenching, powerful, life-changing encounters,

Day by hour by minute by second.

Never a single moment when I can’t have Him-all of Him.

There is a choice and it is always mine.

To be content with little

Or to yearn for more with all my heart.

To stir up my own desire

Never settle for second best

Move from here to there with my heart steadfast

And my mouth wide open-

Every pore, wide open

Unlimited expectation

Of life spent with my Life-Source.

There is payback for you too.

For there is always an after-effect to surprise me.

Spillage.  Overflow.  Seeping out.

My encounter can become yours

For I cannot hold it in; am not meant to

And if you bump into me, you get wet,

If you touch me, you wonder at the dampness on your fingertips,

When you talk with me, you notice a wellspring.

How do I know that? I hear you say-

That’s the way I found the route to the Waterfall

And I can take you there too, but...

There is a choice and it is always yours.
